MDI Holdings, Inc. Presents HEAL Film Camp 2011
HEAL/Travolta Film Camp Returns to First Coast
Hollywood Director Joey Travolta and FilmLab Productions to Produce HEAL's Inclusion Film Camp for Kids at University of North Florida
Jacksonville, Florida...This summer, Hollywood film director Joey Travolta will conduct a two-week filmmaking camp for children on the autism spectrum, sponsored by MDI Holdings, Inc. and the
HEAL Foundation (HealAutismNow.org) in collaboration with UNF.
Located on the UNF campus, June 20 - July 1st, up to 50 young people, ages 10 through 17 years old, 30 of whom are on the autism spectrum and 20 who are siblings and peers, will participate in
hands-on activities like acting, writing, producing, and directing to result in a 30-minute short film, made by the young filmmakers. This year Travolta has added animation to the fun and will
bring protege, Dani Bowman, a 15 yr old girl with autism spectrum disorder, to teach the campers how to create animated art on their computers.
Travolta's successful film camp format, being produced for the fourth time in Florida by Karen Sadler with her company FilmLab Productions providing all creative and production services. The film
team is set to document the campers' day-to-day experiences and includes the making of a "yet to be announced" narrative spoof.
As a result of donations by the sponsors, the camp will be offered at no charge. Campers are nominated by teachers and therapists in Duval, St. Johns and Jacksonville's surrounding
counties.

It's a challenge for 18-year-old Jessica Luksic to talk to people whom she doesn't know well, or to make eye contact with them even if she does.
She has autism, a disorder that can cause social awkwardness and communication problems.
But thanks to the Healing Every Autistic Life [HEAL] Film Camp at the University of North Florida, she had opportunities to interact with many people of all ages during the past two weeks.
She also learned a lot about producing, directing, editing and acting in films. She starred in one too, under the direction of actor/director/producerJoey Travolta, brother of actor John
Travolta.

World Premiere at the Jacksonville Film Festival 2009
Northeastern Premiere at The Garden State Film Festival 2010
A short documentary that follows a group of kids ages 10-17, most of whom are on the autism spectrum, during a two-week filmmaking camp with Director Joey Travolta in Jacksonville Florida.
The film goes behind-the-scenes during the making of three public service announcements for autism awareness; written, acted, directed and produced by the campers. Travolta, who is acclaimed for
his film work with developmentally disabled individuals, worked with producer, Karen Sadler of FilmLab Productions, to create the project for the HEAL Foundation (Healing Every Autistic Life)
benefiting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, their siblings and typical peers.
The story of the HEAL Film Camp shows how a group of kids working with a team of Hollywood film professionals, University of North Florida volunteers, and a community of families, can inspire the
world by creating short films of their own.
A FILMLAB Production
